Scouts give Service to honor Memorial Day

Posted by cwinn on May 24 2023 - 8:29pm

Troop,
On your honor, you will do your best, to do your duty to God and country, and help other people at all times.
Scouting is rooted in Service. Duty to country and service to others. We have an opportunity to do both in honor of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice this Memorial Day weekend.

Alexandria VFW POST 609-Alexandria invites units to join them to place flags at the tombs of military veterans buried in the Alexandria National Cemetery (1450 Wilkes Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.) rain or shine on May 27.

The event will begin with a brief ceremony at the Cemetery Flagpole at 9:30 a.m.

The following Saturday June 3rd at 9:00 a.m. units are invited to assist in removing flags from tombs, cleaning their sticks and packing them away for the next year. Units are welcome to come earlier if they wish to start early.

Register for the June 2-4 Camping Trip at Gettysburg / Pine Grove Furnace State Park

Posted by cwinn on May 21 2023 - 11:41am

Join us in our final outing before summer starts. Pine Grove Furnace State Park is a 2-hour drive from Alexandria. If we have enough drivers, we will explore the Gettysburg Battlefield National Park on Saturday morning, then swim in the Pine Grove Furnace State Park lake in the afternoon. If we do not have enough drivers, we will hike the Appalachian Trail (and swim in the lake if we have time). If you have not already registered on Troopmaster, please register now!  (We will be updating those who registered already on Troopmaster shortly)

Summer Camp at Camp Rodney - July 23-29

Posted by cwinn on Mar 21 2023 - 7:30pm
The Troop will be returning to Camp Rodney this year (23-29 July) for a week of Scouting activities, Merit Badge opportunities, fun and camaraderie.

Merit badge sign up opens on April 1, and you must be registered. For best selection, you'll want to sign up soon!

Camp Rodney offers an excellent opportunity for Scouts of all ages and ranks.  They have a strong first-year program that introduces new Scouts to the world of Scouting and provides the opportunity to complete several rank requirements and merit badge opportunities, which really helps first-year Scouts start their journey off on a strong footing. It is also a great place for Scouts to earn or complete partial badges that are hard to get outside of camp like shooting, archery, watersports, and boating.

The Cost is $575 per Scout and $220 per adult through the Troop PayPal account.  If you pay by check, the cost is $565 for Scouts and $210 for adults.  The price goes up by $30 after 1 May.  If your Scout sold Christmas wreaths, 80% of the profit can be credited to that Scout's camp costs.  Contact me if this applies to you or if you have questions.

Please register on the Troop 129 website as soon as possible so we can get an accurate count!
